Reflections

Each weekday morning, volunteers meet together for an hour-long reflection. This can encompass everything from prayer and spiritual growth to fun and community-building. Some past reflections are listed here:

  • guided meditation or prayer
  • sharing the inspiring/rewarding aspects of our day-to-day lives; also sharing the difficult aspects
  • inspirational or thought-provoking readings (some A-House favorites: Henri Nouwen, Thomas Merton, Dorothy Day, Paolo Freire, Oscar Romero…)
  • writing a letter to yourself for the day you leave Annunciation House
  • yoga
  • writing our representatives regarding immigration reform
  • educational sessions about immigration law, political and economic realities of the countries where our guests come from, etc
  • connecting adjectives/emotions to guests to talk about moments of struggle and joy
  • reading a passage from a book like Borderlands and discussing
  • journaling
  • the question game: draw a question that someone else has written out of a hat, and answer as honestly as possible
  • personality quizzes
  • Spanish lessons (also German, Geordie, and French lessons at times!)
